Do I really need golf shoes?
Do you really need golf shoes - Why the answer is yes!
You may ask yourself if you really need golf shoes. Do they help my golf game or just make me look like I know what I'm doing? Well the simple answer is, yes, you really do need golf shoes. And here's why. First and foremost the golf swing is a basic turning motion. You turn back, then you turn forward.
Now let's imagine this. You go to make a sharp turn with your car around a bend with a cliff on one side - the wrong side. Let's suppose your tires have absolutely no tread and the road is wet. That's not a good scenario now is it!
The same principle applies to golf shoes and your golf swing. As you turn your body back and hopefully transfer your weight to the inside of your back foot, you certainly need something to hold that foot in place. Now if you're just wearing worn out sneakers with no shoe laces, that's simply not going to work. You need golf shoes with turf gripping spikes on the bottom to support your weight transfer and body rotation.
Now you're at the top of your golf swing, and begin the downward swing and forward rotation of your body. Again, here's where good golf shoes make the difference. As your body rotates forward and your weight starts to shift, you need a good base to start that motion with in your swing.
Impact has been made! At impact you again will use your front foot and leg as a base to turn forward through the golf swing. Remember when Tiger Woods had knee surgery a few years back? That's from the pressure that is exerted on your forward leg during impact and follow through of the golf swing. Now imagine that you are wearing those old worn out sneakers again instead of a good pair of golf shoes. With all the pressure and rotation based around your front foot and leg, you could wind up on your keester!
So as you can see, it is essential to have good golf shoes with fresh spikes in them to facilitate your golf swing and all the forces, pulls and rotations that go with the golf swing. So start shopping today for those golf shoes that will improve your game!
